It’s been over 20 years since I was a high school student, dreaming of going to prom. Even in my day, it was very costly and out of reach for many.  Cinderella’s Closet, in partnership with the Element Church in Santa Maria and Orcutt Academy has made it possible for young women in the area to pick out a prom dress for free. Many people in the community have donated dresses, accessories and shoes to make this event a success for the second year in a row.  The first night it is exclusively open to local Foster youth in the area to pick out a dress, shoes and accessories. The second day it is open to the public. They have “fairy godmothers” running around making alterations, suggesting sizes and styles, and giving demonstrations on hair and make-up for their special day. The Santa Maria Times wrote a great article on the event if you’d like to read it. Check out “Cinderella’s closet” facebook fanpage, become a fan and think of them next year if you’d like to donate items and spread the word..

This little munchkin and all her sweetness was a joy to capture. Her Mama has captured all her baby girls at this age. She took some time to warm up to the camera, but finally started to have fun with the blanket, and was the happiest with her cookie.

My heart melts every time I see this precious little one with her Mama at church. I photographed their family last month, and had to set up a session just for Baby D. Check out their family photos here.
